Canada: Dreams of 2.35 lakh foreign nationals shattered due to strict visa policies

  Due to Canada's strict visa policies, the dream of 2.35 lakh foreign nationals to reach Canada remained unfulfilled during the current year. This includes study visas, spouses of temporary foreign workers and work permit applicants. If we look at the data related to study visas, more than 95 thousand visas were issued in December 2023 and this figure was only 30 thousand in December 2020.

International students and spouses of temporary foreign workers are being denied work permits. According to the latest data released by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services, 1.23 lakh former temporary residents were successful in becoming permanent residents of Canada between January and July this year. This figure constitutes 50 percent of the country's new permanent residents. The Canadian government wants to bring the number of temporary residents to 5 percent of the total population, and under this, foreign citizens already in the country are being moved.
