India's enemies beware... 'Mission Sudarshan Chakra' launched; Targets three targets simultaneously; Know its features

Three and a half months after defeating Pakistan in Operation Sindoor, India successfully tested the first Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) for short and medium range in the first phase of its Sudarshan Chakra project.

Under the Air Defence System Sudarshan Chakra mission, which was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, this defence system can prove to be a defence shield for borders, cities and strategic locations.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday posted on Internet Media X (formerly Twitter) that the Indian Defence Research Organisation (DRDO) successfully tested the IADWS off the coast of Odisha at 12.30 pm on Saturday. DRDO also gave information about this successful test on X on Sunday.

What is IADWS Integrated?

The air defence weapon system will provide a shield against multiple drone attacks launched simultaneously by an enemy country and will thwart those attacks. The system integrates radar, launcher, targeting and guidance system, missile and command and control unit to provide comprehensive air defence. Unlike imported systems, it has been developed indigenously.

Multi-layered air defence system
The components of the multi-layered air defence system IADWS is a multi-layered air defence system comprising of fully indigenous Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM), Advanced Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADs) missiles and a high power laser based Directed Energy Weapon (DEW).

Strengthening regional security
According to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, this test has enhanced our country's multi-layered air defence capability manifold. This system will strengthen regional security against enemy air threats. This is how QRSAM will work: Under the Integrated Air Defense Weapon System, potential threats are monitored and analyzed by the radar unit.

The command center then activates the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) to attack high-speed threats coming from high altitude.

Lethality of VSHORADs
Based on the analysis from the command center, the Advanced Very Short Range Air Defense System missiles (VSHORADs) are activated for short-range and slow-speed attacks. This is the role of DEW: Laser-based Directed Energy Weapon (DEW) is used to shoot down enemy fighter jets and missiles in the air.

This weapon uses laser-like energy. Thus, the test was successful. During flight tests, three different targets were simultaneously completely destroyed by QRSAM, VSHORADs and High Energy Laser Weapon System at different distances and altitudes.
