Trump greets Sandhu: Trump congratulates Sandhu on his appointment as Lieutenant Governor of Delhi

  US President Donald Trump on Thursday congratulated veteran diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu on his appointment as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and stressed his role in strengthening India-US ties. In a post on 'Truth Social', Trump praised Sandhu's diplomatic experience and wished him well for his new role. Trump wrote, "Congratulations to Taranjit Sandhu on becoming the new Lieutenant Governor of Delhi! As a seasoned diplomat and former Ambassador to the United States, he has always shown a deep commitment to strengthening US-India relations. I wish him success in leading Delhi's progress and advancing global relations!"

Meanwhile, Delhi's LG Sandhu stressed the importance of strengthening India-US cooperation at 'Freedom250', the celebrations to mark 250 years of American independence, which were launched in the national capital on Wednesday. Sandhu, who attended the launch event, said that this engagement has provided an opportunity to deepen cooperation between the two countries, especially in investment and technology.
Sandhu said in a post on X, "It was a pleasure to meet US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore at the launch of Freedom250 celebrations in New Delhi. We had a meaningful conversation on increasing US investment in Delhi and expanding India-US technology cooperation. The enduring partnership between India and the United States remains a cornerstone of global progress. I look forward to further deepening cooperation that will bring tangible benefits to the residents of our national capital."

Taranjit is the grandson of prominent Sikh leader Teja Singh Samundri. On March 11, Sandhu took oath of office in the presence of Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was also present at the swearing-in ceremony. Taranjit Sandhu is part of a major administrative reshuffle of Governors and Lieutenant Governors across the country. In this reshuffle, Taranjit Singh Sandhu has replaced V K Saxena, who has now been appointed as the LG of Ladakh. He was also the BJP candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
