Sukhoi-30 MKI: Commercial traffic affected due to landing accident of Indian Air Force jet

An Indian Air Force (IAF) Sukhoi 30MKI fighter jet crashed while landing at the Pune-based Indian Air Force (IAF) base on Friday night. Both the pilots of the aircraft are safe. There was some problem with the undercarriage of the aircraft, which houses the wheels and landing gear. Sources said that the cause of the accident is being ascertained.

The closure of the runway at the Pune-based IAF base, which is also used for civilian flights, has affected commercial aviation schedules. Air Force personnel worked through the night to open the runway at 8 am on Saturday. The runway at the Pune airport, which was temporarily unavailable due to an incident with an IAF aircraft, has now been restored and declared operational, Air Force officials said.

All necessary safety inspections and clearances have been completed. Operations are being resumed in a phased manner. Air Force Station Pune personnel worked through the night to get the runway operational so that safe flights can resume as soon as possible. The runway was operational by 8 am.
