Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, while addressing a public rally in Mukerian, launched a scathing attack on the opposition and accused the Shiromani Akali Dal of adopting double standards over the sacrilege law. He said that the Akali Dal is opposing the law today but first it should explain why it did not make such a law when it was in power with the Chief Minister for five times. Mann alleged that if the Congress, BJP or the Shiromani Akali Dal comes back to power, the first step they will take will be to stop the welfare schemes and public benefits being given to the people of Punjab. Taking a dig at the opposition leaders who are vying for the post of Chief Minister, Mann said that they should first prove their strength by winning at least 60 assembly seats. "Where will they get so many seats?" he asked. Referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's proposed visit to Punjab, Mann remarked that Rahul Gandhi had said that he would take all the leaders of the Punjab Congress together in a bus. He quipped, "They may board the bus together, but they will get off fighting among themselves." The Chief Minister also appealed to the residents to provide suitable land for the construction of a government college in Mukerian. He assured that once the land is available, the government will establish a state-of-the-art government college equipped with modern facilities. He further announced that the government hospitals in Hajipur and Mukerian will be upgraded with advanced medical infrastructure and modern healthcare facilities to improve services to the residents of the area.
