Case registered against those who used pellet guns after Rahul Gandhi's protest

Rahul Gandhi Protest: An FIR has been registered at the Delhi Police Station today on the demand of senior Congress party leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to register a case against those who used pellet guns. The police have registered a case against unknown persons in this case.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had reached the Parliament Marg Police Station with Sahil Lohchab, a youth who was attacked with a pellet gun on August 21. He had demanded that an FIR be registered immediately in this case. When the police refused to register a case in this case, he sat on a dharna there. The police told him that the Supreme Court has constituted a high-level expert committee to investigate the allegations of excessive use of force by the police and paramilitary forces during the student protests, but Rahul Gandhi remained adamant on his demand, after which the police had to register a case.

While sitting on the dharna, Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party shared posts on social media platforms saying that they stand for students and justice and that their dharna will continue until an FIR is registered. Rahul Gandhi said that on July 20, 19-year-old Sahil Lohchab, who was peacefully protesting at Jantar Mantar, was attacked by the police with a pellet gun, due to which he lost the sight in one of his eyes.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding accountability for the attack on peaceful protesting students and asked whether the use of lethal weapons against the youth was approved.

He alleged that during the protest, students were lathicharged and tear gas and pellets were used, due to which several youths were injured. He also alleged that women protesters were mistreated and beaten up.

The Congress said that Lochab along with his lawyers had given a written complaint to the Delhi Police on August 14, but he was not given the name or number of the investigating officer (IO). The party alleged that the matter was taken up again on August 17 through emails and phone calls, but no receipt or I/O number was given.

The party said that after previous efforts failed, Rahul Gandhi took Lochab and his mother to the police station on Friday. The party claimed that even after Rahul Gandhi's intervention, the DCP did not give any details about the case officer or the investigating officer.
