Two Japanese Navy helicopters crash, one dead in the accident; 7 people missing in the plane

  Tokyo: Two Navy helicopters crashed in the Pacific Ocean during a training exercise in Japan. Eight people died in this accident. Giving information about the incident, Japanese Defense Minister Minoru Kihara said that two SS-60 helicopters lost contact near Terishima Island late on Saturday night. Each helicopter carried four people. One of the eight crew members was pulled from the water. Meanwhile, authorities are looking for the remaining seven.

Investigation of the causes of the accident

Notably, SH-60K aircraft are typically deployed on destroyers for anti-submarine operations. Japan's NHK public television said no weather advisory had been issued in the area at the time of Saturday's crash.

It is worth mentioning that the information about the cause of this accident has not been revealed. In January 2022, an Air Self-Defense F-15 fighter jet crashed off the north-central coast of Japan, killing two crew members.


Japanese Navy

Kihara said the Sikorsky-designed twin-engine multi-mission aircraft, known as the Seahawk, was on anti-submarine training in the water at night. One lost contact Saturday at 10:38 p.m. About 25 minutes later, contact with the other aircraft was lost.

One belonged to an air base in Nagasaki and the other to a base in Tokushima Prefecture. Officials also said that Saturday's exercise involved only the Japanese navy and was not part of any multinational exercise.
