Israel-Hamas War: Israeli attack in Rafah city of southern Gaza, 13 people including 9 children died.

  Rafah (Gaza Strip): Health officials said on Sunday that 13 people, including nine children, were killed in overnight Israeli attacks on the southern Gaza city of Rafah. The United States was on the verge of approving billions of dollars in additional military aid to its closest ally.

Israel has launched almost daily airstrikes on Rafah and has vowed to increase its ground assault on the city on the Egyptian border despite international calls for restraint, including from the US.

Humanitarian aid

The House of Representatives on Saturday approved a $26 billion aid package for Gaza, including $9 billion in humanitarian aid.

A man, his wife and their 3-year-old child were killed in the first attack, according to a nearby Kuwaiti hospital. The hospital said the woman was pregnant. Doctors saved the child.

According to hospital records, eight children and two women of the same family died in the second attack. Earlier, nine people including six children were killed in an airstrike in Rafah at night.

The Israel-Hamas war has killed more than 34,000 Palestinians, destroyed two of Gaza's largest cities and wreaked havoc across the region, according to local health officials. About 80 percent of the population has fled their homes to other parts of the besieged coastal region, which experts say is on the brink of famine.

The struggle has been going on for seven months

The seven-month conflict has fueled regional unrest, pitting Israel and the US against Iran and allied terrorist groups in the Middle East. Israel and Iran clashed with live fire and drone strikes earlier this month, raising fears of war between the longtime foes.

Tensions have also risen in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. The Israeli military said soldiers neutralized two Palestinians who attacked a checkpoint near the South West Bank city of Hebron early Sunday with a knife and a gun.

At least 469 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank since the war in Gaza began, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Most Israeli soldiers have been killed during arrest raids, which often lead to shootouts or violent protests.
