New Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Ashutosh Dixit today said restoring the Indian Air Force's proven combat strength, accelerating indigenous programs like the Tejas and Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) and strengthening coordination among the three forces (land, sea and air) will be his top priorities. A day after taking charge as the 29th Chief of the Indian Air Force, he spoke about his key areas of focus under the term 'Air' (VAYU) in which he emphasized the need for alertness and operational readiness, self-reliance, yukti (strategic pursuits) and tri-army cooperation. Talking about his priority on self-reliance, Air Chief Marshal Dixit said that the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCAMKIA) and LCAMK-2 as well as the AMCA program would be his "highest priority". The Ministry of Defense has entered into two separate agreements with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to procure 180 LCA-MKIA jets for the Indian Air Force at a cost of over Rs 1.10 lakh crore. Talking to reporters after the ceremonial guard of honor at Racecourse Air Force Station parade ground, Dixit said, "Tejas MKIA and 2, AMCA, Indian sensors and Indian weapons are our top priority. We will fight with Indian weapons and we will keep them in sufficient numbers to meet our operational needs. Our responsibility is to fight and win, but most importantly to stop the conflict through reliable air power.”
