President Donald Trump has sought $10 billion in damages in a defamation lawsuit against the BBC. Trump has accused the British broadcaster of defamation as well as deceptive and unfair business practices. The 33-page complaint accuses the BBC of portraying President Trump as “false, defamatory, inflammatory and malicious”. The BBC’s report has been described as “a brazen attempt to interfere in and influence the 2024 US presidential election”. It accuses the BBC of “combining two completely separate parts of President Trump’s January 6, 2021 speech” in order to “calculate and misrepresent the meaning of what President Trump said.”
