The US Embassy has issued new guidelines, which the Ministry of External Affairs has taken into consideration. The new guidelines make it mandatory for visa applicants to provide details of their social media handles and emphasize that visa applications of Indian nationals should be assessed on merit. Speaking at the weekly press briefing, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “Visa and immigration matters are sovereign matters of any country. We have seen the guidelines issued by the US Embassy regarding the use of social media handles in visa applications. But we believe that all visa applications of Indian nationals should be considered on merit.” ‘Interests of Indian nationals must be protected’ The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson assured that India will continue to engage with the US on transit and consular issues. "We will continue to engage with the US side on all transit and consular issues to ensure the protection of the legitimate interests of Indian citizens," he said. No change in advisory level Randhir Jaiswal said that US officials have informed India that there has been no change in the advisory level. "We have learnt that the US has also updated its travel advisory for India on June 16. We have been informed by US officials that there has been no change in the advisory level for India. It remains at Level 2 as before. The US travel advisory for India has been at Level 2 for many years," he said.
