The number of HIV patients in the district has increased rapidly in the last one year. While 2800 patients were reported in the year 2023, this number has increased to 3264 in the year 2024. Out of these, 2497 patients are receiving medicine from the hospital. There are 98 patients below the age of 18. This disease is also spreading rapidly among children. Since 2017, 332 patients have died due to HIV. It is worth mentioning that the district health department is running an anti-retroviral therapy (ART) center, in which medicine is given to HIV patients. Along with this, the department is making patients aware about the prevention of the disease. According to the department, ICT centers have also been set up in Kaithal, Guhla, Kalayat and Poondri in the district. There are more HIV cases in Poondri area, due to which the effect of drugs is also increasing. Drug addicts use the same needle repeatedly, which makes them susceptible to the disease. Reasons for the spread of the disease The number of HIV patients is increasing due to negligence. This infection spreads from one infected patient to another, through the use of syringes for increasing drug habit and also from mother to child. The health department continuously conducts screening to identify the patients. For the test, tests are being conducted in the district civil hospital as well as in the community and primary health centers. After confirmation, the patients are counseled and given medicine in the ART center opened in the civil hospital.
