KOLKATA: The central government is now gearing up to return Rs 3,000 crore worth of illegal assets and money seized from the corrupt by the ED in Bengal to the poor. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself said this on Wednesday during a telephone conversation with Maharani Amrita Rai of the Krishnanagar royal family, who is contesting from the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat in Bengal's Nadia district. The PM has also talked about finding a legal way in this regard. Trinamool Congress has fielded Mahua Moitra as its candidate against Rajmata. He said that the ED in Bengal has seized properties worth about Rs 3,000 crore looted from the poor, which is being worked on to return them to the poor. So legal advice is being sought. The Prime Minister said that he is working on legal options to ensure that the money of the poor people of Bengal, whose money was looted as bribes for the jobs of teachers, clerks, etc., goes to the corrupt people. Compensation can be returned to them through confiscated properties.
