Courts should work 24 hours like hospitals: Chief Justice

  Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has stressed the need for major reforms in the judiciary and said that it is time for the judiciary to develop a system that works 24 hours a day like hospitals to alleviate the suffering of the common man and provide them immediate relief. The Chief Justice said this during a program organized by the Madhya Pradesh High Court on connecting digital platforms. He also launched the newly developed digital platform of the High Court. He said that technology is the only effective solution to stop wasting time in the courts. He called for further strengthening of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure to speed up the process of justice. According to the Chief Justice, the Supreme Court has also formed a special committee on the use of AI for speedy disposal of cases. Referring to the Covid-19 pandemic, he said that it was only due to technology like video conferencing that Indian courts did not close even in difficult times, which was appreciated all over the world.
