Takaichi and Trump discuss Hormuz security and strengthening alliance

Japanese Prime Minister Sane Takaichi met with President Donald Trump at the White House in an attempt to revive the two countries' alliance. The meeting came at a time when Trump had complained that allies like Japan had not acted quickly enough to respond to US calls to protect the Strait of Hormuz. Takaichi presented Trump as a guide to world peace, saying that only he could bring about world peace in the current critical security environment. There was some tension during the meeting when Trump jokingly mentioned the 1941 Pearl Harbor attack and said that just as Japan attacked the US without informing it, the US did not inform its allies before attacking Iran. However, the two leaders exchanged high praise over dinner in the evening, with Takaichi declaring in English that "Japan is back."
