Pakistan extends airspace ban for Indian aircraft for another month

Pakistan on Wednesday extended the ban on its airspace for Indian aircraft by a month till January 23.

Pakistan had closed its airspace to Indian airlines after the Pahalgam attack in April. In retaliation, India has also imposed a similar ban on Pakistani aircraft.

The earlier ban was to end on December 24, but the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) on Wednesday announced its extension till January 23, 2026.

Pakistani airspace will remain closed to all aircraft registered in India. This includes aircraft owned, operated or leased by Indian airlines as well as Indian military flights.

According to the aviation notice (NOTAM), the ban will apply to both Pakistan’s Flight Information Regions (FIRs) Karachi (OPKR) and Lahore (OPLR).

Let us tell you that a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in April killed 26 people. This incident led to a four-day standoff between India and Pakistan in May. Since then, Islamabad has repeatedly extended the ban on Indian aircraft flying over its airspace.
