The Indian Army has released its new doctrine to prepare for future wars. According to this new doctrine, Army officers will now be given special training in artificial intelligence (AI) to help them make decisions. Also, flying drones will be made a mandatory skill for the entire Indian Army of 12 lakh personnel. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh released this doctrine called 'Indian Army Land Warfare Doctrine 2026' on the last day of the ongoing Army Commander's Conference in New Delhi. According to sources, the army is now focusing more on the use of new technology, drones and precision targeting weapons. A three-tier AI training program for military officers has also been designed. This new doctrine is based on lessons learned from recent conflicts (eg Operation Sindhur). Today, drones, continuous surveillance and information systems play a very important role in warfare. This new doctrine is part of the 'Defence Forces Vision 2047', which emphasizes on enhancing the interoperability of the three forces. The doctrine also lays special emphasis on 'self-reliance' i.e. the use of home-made weapons. Ensuring continuous supply of weapons, ammunition, food and water to the soldiers during the war is considered important. Moreover, even if the enemy jams the signal or communication network, the army's machines and weapons will continue to function without interruption. Military commanders operating on the ground will now be given more freedom to make on-the-spot decisions based on the threat, geography and environment. Various security issues and digitization of Army operations were also openly discussed in the three-day conference, which began on October 21 under the leadership of Army Chief General Dheeraj Seth.
