CM Bhagwant Mann's wife accused of demanding Rs 5 crore to settle rape case; NHRC takes notice

  The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken notice of the allegations against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's wife that she had demanded Rs 5 crore to suppress a case. According to the complaint received by the commission, the petition alleging suppression of the case was filed by former Punjab judge Justice Ranjit Singh. A bench headed by NHRC member Priyank Kanungo has directed the Punjab Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) to investigate the matter and submit an action taken report (ATR) within two weeks. The commission has also sent the matter to the Department of Women Safety, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. The commission will take further action based on the action taken report.
