Despite two months, US has not shared the identities of 30 Indian nationals arrested: Central Government

  It has been almost two months since the announcement of the arrest of 30 Indian nationals in the US during the operation against illegal immigrants, but the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday informed that the Indian government is still waiting for the US authorities to confirm the identities and other details of these persons. The Ministry of External Affairs said that immediately after the news of the arrests came out, it had sought the names and other relevant details of the Indian nationals through the Indian Embassy in Washington, but no confirmation has been received from the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) yet. According to the US agency CBP, "Operation Checkmate" was conducted in Arizona from May 11 to 15, in which 52 persons living illegally in the US were arrested. Of these, 36 were driving trucks (semi-trucks), including 30 Indian nationals. The US agency said that 29 of the truck drivers had commercial driver's licenses issued by states like California, New York, Washington and Virginia, while three did not have any driver's licenses. The agency also said that most of those arrested had employment authorization documents that were no longer valid. All were charged under US federal law and were to be deported. At the same time, the central government has clarified that it had no prior knowledge of this raid or action and that it was entirely an action taken by the US administration at its own level.
