  Bhagwant Mann Case: The Supreme Court has issued notice to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party leaders. The notice has been issued on a petition by the Chandigarh Administration challenging the Punjab and Haryana High Court's decision quashing the riots case registered during the protest against the hike in electricity rates in 2020. A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana asked Bhagwant Mann and AAP leaders Harpal Singh Cheema, Gurmeet Singh, Meet Hayer, Baljinder Kaur, Aman Arora and others to respond to the Chandigarh Administration's petition. The order was passed after Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju argued that the High Court had passed a completely wrong order. In the court, Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju opposed the petition and argued that the High Court has given a very wrong decision. He said that an illegal assembly was held there, in which all the above were involved and their names are recorded in the FIR. Many people present in this assembly took violent action due to which police officers also got injured. He argued before the court that in the earlier order it was said that this assembly could not be considered as an illegal assembly because there was no order under Section 144, which is completely wrong. At that time, Chief Minister Mann may not have taken any violent action himself, but the responsibility for the action taken by any member of the crowd also falls on him. Earlier on July 16, the Supreme Court had said that it was not willing to interfere in the petition of the Chandigarh Administration. The Chief Justice had remarked at that time that sloganeering is something that everyone does in a democracy and now that Bhagwant Mann is in a responsible position, he will understand his responsibility well. Apart from this, on July 21, the court had clarified that there is no allegation against Chief Minister Mann and other leaders that they had deliberately incited the crowd protesting against the increase in electricity prices in Chandigarh.
