According to a recent Fox News report and US intelligence, Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir could prove to be a threat to the Trump administration. The main reason for this is being said to be his long-standing and close ties to senior Iranian military officials. The Fox report has called Munir a potential "red flag" for the Trump administration because of his deep ties to the Iranian leadership. Retired Pakistani General Ahmed Saeed told Fox News Digital that Munir has personal ties to high-ranking Iranian figures, including slain Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani and IRGC commander Hossein Salami. These ties are now under scrutiny as Munir is acting as a key mediator between the US and Iran amid rising tensions in the Middle East. Although President Trump has publicly praised Munir and called him his favorite field marshal, intelligence officials have warned that his dual role could compromise American interests. The Fox report warns that Pakistan has a history of being a treacherous partner (especially in Afghanistan). That is why its close coordination with Iran could now pose a threat to US security. Bill Roggio of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) told Fox News, "Trump should not trust the Pakistanis. Pakistan proved to be a treacherous 'partner' in Afghanistan... Munir's ties to the Iranian military are a huge threat to the Trump administration."
