Punjab News: Wheat procurement gains momentum, lifting slows down

  Wheat procurement in Punjab mandis has picked up pace after the central government relaxed the wheat procurement norms for the year 2026-27. Today, 10.66 lakh tonnes of wheat was procured in the state's mandis, which is the highest procurement in a single day so far during the season; however, the lifting of the procured crop from the mandis is still going on at a slow pace. According to government data, a total of 28.31 lakh tonnes of wheat has arrived in Punjab's mandis so far. Out of this, 10.72 lakh tonnes of the crop has reached the mandis today alone. The total procurement so far has reached 23.83 lakh tonnes. This time, private buyers are not seen very active in the mandis. Out of the 10.66 lakh tonnes procured today, private buyers have purchased only 457 tonnes of wheat. Talking about lifting, only 1.36 lakh tons of wheat have been lifted so far, out of which 76,928 tons have been lifted today.
