The plane was a Bolivian Air Force Hercules carrying new central bank notes to other cities. The crash damaged 15 vehicles on the highway. Images posted on social media showed the wreckage of the plane, burnt cars and bodies strewn across the road. It was not immediately clear whether the dead were on board the plane or in cars on the road. Firefighters struggled to put out the fire. A large amount of cash on board was scattered outside the airport after the crash. According to reports, hundreds of people rushed to the spot to collect the scattered notes. The situation got so bad that the police had to use anti-riot equipment to disperse the crowd. After the accident, the administration has temporarily stopped all flights to and from the airport as a safety precaution. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident to find out what went wrong with the plane while taking off.
