Congress leader Rahul Gandhi-led delegation on Wednesday met President Ram Nath Kovind over the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, in which eight people, including four farmers, were killed after a car plowed into the crowd on October 3.
The Congress delegation presented a "memorandum of facts" about the Lakhimpur Kheri incident to the President and demanded immediate dismissal of Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Misra over the violence.

The Congress delegation included A K Antony, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

CONGRESS DEMANDS AJAY MISRA'S DISMISSAL
During the meeting, Congress demanded "immediate dismissal" of Ajay Misra whose son, Ashish Misra, has been named in the FIR and is accused of "mowing down farmers" in Lakhimpur Kheri. The delegation also demanded strict action against the accused in the killing of farmers.

Ashish Misra was arrested on Saturday by the Uttar Pradesh Police in connection with the violence.

In a statement following the meeting with President Kovind, Rahul Gandhi said, "We went to Lakhimpur Kheri and visited the families which lost their members. We were told that they want two things. They want justice. The one who is behind the murder should be punished."
They also want the murderer's father, the Home Minister, to be removed from the post. Till he is on the post there cannot be justice. MoS Home [Ajay Misra] should resign," Rahul Gandhi said.
Rahul Gandhi also alleged that before the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, Ajay Misra had "threatened" the farmers. "Before the incident, MoS Home had threatened farmer[s] and then there was action on his warning. We have demanded that MoS be removed and [we have asked for] an inquiry by two sitting judges of the Supreme Court."

"They [farmers] want justicethe person who has murdered should be punishedand also that the prime accused's father is MoS Home...till he is [a] minister, fair justice is not possible..we have communicated the farmers' demand to the President," Rahul Gandhi said.

Priyanka Gandhi said, "We want justice for farmers and the journalist. Hope for justice should never stopwe have raised the demand on behalf of the victims. Preident Kovind has assured he will take up this matter today."
