Quick-witted people on the internet recognized the painting gifted by General Munir to Prime Minister Sharif. They immediately started posting that the photo is very similar to a four-year-old photo of a Chinese military exercise.

Several social media users claimed that the photo was taken directly from publicly available visuals of Chinese People's Liberation Army exercises, raising questions about the authenticity of Pakistan's depiction of Operation Banayan-un-Marsous.
