Sri Lanka: The Sri Lankan government has suspended many of its ministers, accusing them of violating party discipline

Colombo: The Sri Lankan government has suspended two of its front-line ministers. Both the ministers have been suspended by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) for violating party discipline. In this case, Party Secretary Dayashachiv Jaishekhar told the media that until the two ministers give their explanation, both will remain temporarily suspended. The Central Committee of the SLFP met on 21 November to sack three other junior ministers in President Ranil Wickremesinghe's government, including Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amarweera. All these ministers have been accused of violating party discipline. However, the suspension of the party does not mean that the ministers have been sacked from Wickremesinghe's cabinet.
